Welcome to Caldecote Cubs.
What’s it all about? = Fun!
We’re all about having fun! At Caldecote, Cambridge Cubs join together with their parents for small or big adventures. Best of all, you can get involved.
Total adventure for a console generation
Involvement in Cub groups around the country is continuously growing: we’re a total antidote for the Xbox/ Playstation generation. Are you old enough to remember packing your lunch, riding off on your bike and waving goodbye to your parents with them saying: “See you at tea time”? Some of us are, and we realise that the world has changed. That’s one of the reasons we love Cubs: we allow young people to enjoy adventure in a way they wouldn’t otherwise get to.
We’re loud, and we’re noisy: but that’s not all
Yes when you see us you’ll see that we’re loud and noisy. None of the leaders know about the latest electronic DS or PSP games, but we play plenty of riotous games. Our youngster love them and they are always asking for them. For many, we’re the first place they’ve seen such boisterous team games, and for some Cubs we’re the only place they get to play them.
But we’re not just about noisy games. We’re about learning new skills, respect for others, respect for ourselves; and our young people quickly realise that personal discipline is as important at Cubs as it is in other team environments. Really, under the cover of adventure, Cubs is all about building confidence and developing people.
At Caldecote Cubs you’ll find young people being challenged in new ways. There’ll be plenty of ‘firsts’ for someone in Cubs. Perhaps they’ll get their first taste of leadership, perhaps they’ll find themselves working much more closely in a team than they’ve had to before. Maybe they’ll get their first try at abseiling or canoeing. For some at Cubs they will have their first experience of sleeping out with their mates, or lighting a fire, or burning a sausage and eating it. And if you’re a parent who chooses to get involved in the group, you could find yourself with a few ‘firsts’ as well.
Right here you can find out more about what our group is up to at the moment, and the benefits you might see should you choose to get involved.
